Gordon wins his 4th consecutive Food City 500. Back-to-back Busch Champ Randy LaJoie scores his first Top 10, subbing for Ricky Craven. 3. Winless streak would go on late in the year at Phoenix. Gordon's fourth straight Bristol spring race win. Also, Musgrave accomplishes the most determined eight place finish EVER in NASCAR. Early in the race, he crashed into the Tabasco car of all cars and somehow pulls off a top 10 finish. Impressive. 5. Breaker047 posted: 06.29.2007 - 11:56 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) If I remember correctly, the caution on laps 194-199 (NASCAR) was to get the ambulance to take Hut Stricklin to a local hospital. There wasn't a tunnel to the outside of the track, so they had to open the gate on the wall (the one Michael Waltrip and Mike Harmon both hit and split their cars apart on). I think they said over the television that they thought he had a broken nose, which made no sense to me how that would happen. I think they later found out he had no broken bones. He was t-boned right behind the driver's door by Kenny Wallace. 7. Anonymous posted: 09.16.2007 - 6:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Joe Nemechek failed to qualify. 8. This guy was a rwspected veteran who I feel should have finished in the top-10 in this race. Randy Lajoie definitely could have won some races if he had stayed in thew 50. 10. I had to do a process of elimination just to figure out who won without looking it up. 22. Will posted: 03.18.2016 - 9:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Several top 5-10 contenders had trouble late. Rusty had the dominant car early before dropping a cylinder (they thought maybe a second one had dropped too). To make matters worse, after he had gone a lap down, a piece of debris presumably came off of Rudd's car (or at least was hit by his car first) and punctured his tire. He hit the wall and was done for the day. Bobby Labonte got wrecked on a late restart, also collecting Little. And Mayfield got spun with just over 5 to go while running in the top 5. No caution was thrown and he went a lap down, finishing 12th. Also, while not running near the front, the t-bone hit on Hut from Kenny's car was brutal. Amazing he wasn't seriously hurt from it. All those things aside, outside of the top 4 finishers and Martin in 7th, there were several surprising names near the top. 23. GregSacksIsYourGod posted: 11.25.2020 - 7:57 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @26 That was because this is still in the era where replacement drivers were pretty commonplace. Hut's car was repairable enough to get it back on track, so the Stavola Brothers tapped another driver to take over driving duties while he was getting checked at the hospital. I believe Kenny Irwin was their first choice, but he wound up taking over for Geoff Bodine when Bodine was overcome by fumes in his car, so not sure who substituted for him - maybe Kenny Wallace? 29. possum posted: 11.25.2020 - 6:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @28 - Wallace would be a possibility. It's in my mind tho that it was Buckshot Jones (who ran a few races for the Stavolas later in the year (and, I think, bought the team after the Stavolas decided to leave the sport)). 30. rateus posted: 02.25.2021 - 6:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Per post 23, Mike Dillon was the relief driver for Hut - he was actually on hand as potential relief for Mike Skinner so was ready to step in. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
