He had at least a top 5 car. 3. most posted: 12.18.2006 - 1:49 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I remember Ricky had brought on new crew members during the race, good win. 4. Very impressive for Rudd! 5. Anonymous posted: 11.19.2011 - 4:14 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Gordon's car was horrible for the first half of the race. He was running 21st at one point and was lapped by Dale Jarrett. His crew improved his car and he ran with the leaders for the remainder of the race but could never recover his lost lap. 6. After the woes at Charlotte, he entered this race with a 1 point advantage over Labonte, but the slow speed and the 12th place finish combined with Labonte's top 5 put him in a hole he couldn't recover from. 10. It really was a handicap on the rest of his season. Labonte didn't start great either, but Gordon simply didn't get the points. 11. The car was the pole winning car for this race a year prior with Hut Stricklin behind the wheel. 12. He finished second here three times, including once during his previously mentioned tenure with Kenny Bernstein's team in the late 1980s, before he was finally able to unlock the gates to victory lane. Rudd's winning streak came close to ending in both 1995 and 1996. In 1995 Rudd went winless until he won the penultimate race of the season at Phoenix and he had to wait until the third-to-last race of the season here in 1996 to take the Tide Ride into victory lane.. 13. That was 23 years ago today as I post this(Oct 20, 2019). Fun fact: Felix Sabates cars of the 42 (Kyle Petty) and the 40 (Robby Gordon) ran two manufactures in this race. Petty drove a Pontiac and Gordon drove a Chevrolet. SABCO went full time Chevrolet for 1997 for all of his cars. 14.
