He had broken ribs and still drove to victory in this race, maintaining his point lead. In case you're wondering, SPENCER, Jimmy started 21st and finished 26th, 7 laps down. 2. Evan posted: 02.12.2012 - 12:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) In tribute to Junior Johnson, ESPN did a classy poem called the Legend of Ingle Hollow with Jerry Punch, John Kernan, Ned Jarrett and Benny Parsons reading a verse it went something like this. The poem was originally read at the 1990 race but ESPN decided to show the piece again. The Legend of Ingle Hollow Jerry:There was a man around here many years ago, who drove real fast and talked reaaaal slow, its said he made moonshine laced with mountain snow. He's the Legend of Ingle Hollow John:He lived in saw house down by the creek, a real strapping cuss, not mild nor meek. He had to drive real fast to make ends meet. He was the legend of Ingle Hollow. Ned:He drove the Iron Horse to a victory or two beating Curtis, Little Joe, and Fireball, too. Those ghosts of yesterday still haunt this old hollow. But the legend lives on creating champions of tommorow. He's the legend of Ingle Hollow. Benny:he lives a simple life now. A good hound, a good car. That bright red T-Bird, we know who you are. Its a challenge he lives for and all us of must face. When you arrive at North Wilkesboro you've arrived at Junior's place. * Nevertheless, this race had a 30-minute prerace show which was not an eternity then unlike the hour long prerace coverage we have now, considering SPEED does its own prerace show, NASCAR Raceday. Benny Parsons explains how moonshining worked while he shows how moonshining works and coverage of Junior Johnson Appreciation Week and the Budweiser Clydesdales take Junior around the track in a stirring tribute. * Richard Petty crashed early in the event when Dale Jarrett and Darrell Waltrip made contact and King Richard just piled in. * As for the race, Bill Elliott finished 20th in the race meant to commemorate his car owner while teammate Sterling Marlin finished 8th. 7. autryvilleracefan posted: 01.15.2013 - 1:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bobby Hillin Jr. was penalized five laps for clipping Kyle Petty and sending the No. 42 Pontiac into the wall. Car owner Felix Sabates was so upset, he kicked the side of Hillin's car in the pits. 8. In the 1993 Daytona 500, Kyle and Bobby crashed and Kyle was livid at Bobby as that cost Kyle a potential $1 million bonus from car owner Felix Sabates. 9. rob posted: 03.05.2015 - 7:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Davey's brother Clifford finished second in a 500K ARCA race at Texas World Speedway on the same day. 10. Jimmy Hensley qualified the No. 28 car as Davey was too banged up on Friday to qualify. He was able to keep his position, unlike today, and started the car in the 6th spot. Hensley was on standby all day long but I don't think there was ever any real consideration to put Hensley in the car. Davey's leg cramped up on the last caution flag so there was so concern but once the race went green that subsided and Davey held off a faster Rusty Wallace car to the flag. Rusty has interesting post race comments mentioning that Davey was banged up so he ran him clean. IDK if it were different whether or not Rusty would have moved him but he kinda gave you that impression at the end. Prior to the crash will Petty, Hillin was doing very very well in the No. 66 Ford. Hillin replaced Chad Little and was running on the lead lap prior to the incident. There was a slight rain delay in the middle of the event and that's what changed Kulwicki's car, as after the rain he was never as good as he was prior, IMO. Also a side note from the MRN broadcast. Eli Gold mentioned it with about 30 to go that if 13 cars stayed on the lead lap that would be a NASCAR record for a short track race, which happened. Pretty cool, IMO. 11. This was Allison's only win at North Wilkesboro. The closing stages of this race were a one-on-one between Allison and Rusty Wallace but as noted before the two raced each other clean and Wallace never got close enough to attempt the pass. 12. Michael Waltrip was angry at Harry Gant for spinning him and causing a backup behind them, but it was clearly Michael cutting down on Harry. Harry had slowed down so much to keep from getting into Michael that Rusty tapped Harry from behind. 14. When asked what happened, Michael replied that he wasn't going to call Harry Gant ('the old guy driving the green car', as Michael put it) a turd, "because he isn't, he's a good guy." You could hear Bob Jenkins burst out laughing after Michael's comment. 15. Hensley remained suited up and at the ready on Sunday in case Davey had to get out in need of a relief driver but Allison toughed it out for the win. Crew chief Larry McReynolds made sure to thank Hensley for his help. 16. The next race, Jimmy Hensley would become the permanent driver of the car for the rest of 1992 and had great success. Hillin would compete for owners Martin Birrane and Junie Donlavey on a part-time basis with minimal success. 17.
