He was heading toward winning in his debut, but a faulty engine ruined it... 2. Greg Sacks drove one of these cars to a Top 5 finish in the Busch race at Daytona 3 months later, and in the Daytona 500 Hamilton drove another camera car. 5. Barrett claimed he lost his breaks and that's why he came flying into turn 1 and veered right into Rusty. Rusty's crew though cried foul and threw out allegations that they saw Richard Childress crew members having conversations with Junie Donlavey's team earlier in the week and suspected before the race that Childress might have paid off Junie to make sure something bad happened to Rusty in the race. That story petty much went away after Rusty won the title the following week in Atlanta but I wonder how history would have been changed and how this incident and the allegations that followed would have been remembered had Dale ended up taking the title by a few points. 7. Rick Hendrick decided to take the camera out of his car because it was running so well. 8. Ryan posted: 01.02.2009 - 12:36 am Rate this comment: (2) (7) Rusty always was a bitch... Usually a race was on the line when a bump and run was being displayed, or a lap car was in his way, or he was just standing his ground. That's what is wrong with a lot of the drivers today and why Nascar is losing its fans. It's not just the economy its the lack of character and hard driving every lap between drivers. Dale was the last cowboy... 14. His original one had a radio failure so his team went over to Petty Enterprises and got Richard Petty's helmet after the King dropped out. They switched helmets on a pit stop and Terry finished the race using Petty's. The Budweiser #11 Ford ran better after the change as Terry was able to tell his crew what changes to make. 18. He was the dirtiest driver I ever saw in NASCAR, bar none. 19. Nascar Lead Lap Points posted: 10.01.2014 - 4:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Owner Updates #41 Sara Vincent #89 Tom Hathaway 20. He did finish worse on two occasions in races with larger fields (55th at Charlotte in 1960 due to being disqualified and 57th at Daytona in 1959 due to an early engine failure). 23. T Ferguson posted: 12.02.2018 - 7:38 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) There were not enough pit stalls for all the cars. During the broadcast (right before he crashed into Wallace around lap 256) Stan Barrett can be seen entering pit road, and reversing his car behind the wall right at the pit entrance for service. Weird he couldn't relocate to an empty stall as there were already 10+ cars out of the race. 24. zuel660 posted: 12.28.2018 - 10:32 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Pocono is not unique for animals on the track, as the first caution here is for a dog! 25. RaceFanX posted: 07.26.2019 - 9:02 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Greg Sacks' #46 City Chevrolet "Days of Thunder" entry carried two gigantic movie cameras during this race to shoot footage for the blockbuster, one on the right front of the car and one on the right rear. The cameras caused the handling issues that eventually led to the team parking it. Overall there is a lot of footage from this race in the movie. Several real NASCAR drivers make cameos in the movie and a few others missed the cut. Jimmy Means filmed a cameo, he was supposed to start outside pole alongside Tom Cruise' character in one race (which I'm sure NASCAR fans would have gotten a kick out of), but it ended up deleted from the finished film. (thanks Brock Beard on YouTube for these) 26. Seb posted: 08.27.2019 - 8:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Was #1 Miller a Monte Carlo or a Lumina ? Every other Chevrolet were Lumina. 27.
