It was Waltrip's seventh and final win of the season, DW acknowledged in victory lane his chances for a championship had pretty much slipped away at this point but they were still going to give it their all anyway. Ricky Rudd traded a little paint with Dale Earnhardt as he passed him for sixth near the finish of this one. Given both cars had similar blue-and-yellow Wrangler paint schemes announcer Eli Gold joked that "with identical cars what's the difference" when it came to that paint swap. Rusty Wallace had already resigned for 1985 with Cliff Stewart's team before this race and was running great in this one. The radio broadcast said he might have been the fastest car on the track in the closing laps as he raced to a strong fifth-place finish, just his third top-5 in Cup competition. 4. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 12.22.2017 - 4:40 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Caution 1: Lap 79-84: #11 spun backstretch Caution 2: Lap 96-98: #98 accident turn 2 Caution 3: Lap 216-221: #17,98 accident turn 4 Caution 4: Lap 259-262: #27 spun turn 4 Caution 5: Lap 276-280: #47 spun turn 1 Caution 6: Lap 325-328: #75 accident turn 3 Caution 7: Lap 341-348: #21,48,51 accident turn 1 5. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 12.22.2017 - 4:41 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Correction Caution 4 was from lap 259-261 6. The other race in question? The fall race from 1957 - not a typo! Granted, the fall 1957 race was only 160 laps and the first Cup event held at the track after they paved over the clay, but the fact that that many cars finished on the lead lap at that point of NASCAR history seems pretty remarkable. It actually looks like that was some kind of a trend at the track back then - the spring 1960 race had 6 lead-lap finishers for another 160-lapper and the fall 1962 race had 9 cars finish within two laps of the leader in a 320-lap race. Anyone happen to know why this may have been a more frequent occurrence at North Wilkesboro compared to other short tracks of the era? 12. rateus posted: 06.05.2020 - 4:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @10 Starting line-up (from before the rain-out) shows Hooker qualified P22 so he should be removed from the list of DNQs. He may have originally been entered in another car but he definitely qualified the one he raced. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
