He finished 14th. 2. MASH_guy posted: 06.10.2005 - 9:15 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) It was also the first win for Geoff Bodine. Don't you love when the owner and driver get their first wins simultaneously? 3. Darrell posted: 07.19.2006 - 9:05 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) a la Ricky Craven in Martinsville, 2004. Or Mark Martin at Rockingham, 1989. Dare I say Jody Ridley at Dover, 1981? There are many, many other examples, I'm sure. 4. myself posted: 03.14.2007 - 8:02 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Wierd that Hendrick's first win came at a place that years later would be so tragic to him, his family, & his organization. 5. It was actually 2001. 7. bks43 posted: 05.19.2010 - 4:21 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) I was nineteen years old, in Architecture school, and in love for the first time in my life. I remember this race because that weekend her parents had left town and I snuck and spent the whole night with her. It was a sweet and innocent time for us. I listened to the race on the radio on the way home and remember it because it was Geoff Bodine and Rick Hendrick's first win. That was a long time ago, and after five years of being together, we concluded we were too young and we'd both changed. I'm happily married (for over seventeen years now), yet I still think about this girl and the special memories I associate with her. I suppose we never forget our first loves - at least I haven't. And before that it was a half mile? 9. Lol not a big fan of Mr.H but he has had a hell of a run in NASCAR. 10. April 29, 1984 changed NASCAR history. 11. Morgan Shepherd stole a motor from his team, thus ending their short partnership together~ Morgan's last race in a Food Country car came in 1984's "Mello Yello 300" @ Charlotte~ 12. Perhaps Jeff Gordon never makes it big, nor Jimmie Johnson....also, perhaps 4 car teams never become the norm? Likely the series would be totally different than it is now..... 15. Bonnett notice his thumb was dislocated so three laps later when he got the chance he grabbed it with his other hand and snapped it back into place. Despite that injury he still came back to finish fifth...then went to the doctor back home in Alabama and found out he actually broke his wrist in that incident...and yet he still ran the next several races while it healed. 16. brunetteuncfan posted: 10.30.2018 - 9:15 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) I believe this is the race I attended with my mother when I was nine. I filled out the little ticket on the back in hopes of winning the pace car. It was a red, 1984 Pontiac Trans Am. After the race, we left, then shortly after moved from NC to Fl. My grandmother called saying the mailman left a note on the door, saying "Congratulations!" You won the pace car at Martinsville Speedway!" and left a number for my mom to call. Believe it or not, I did win that car! At the time, there were no age limits and they couldn't refuse me. My mom needed a car so we picked it up, took it home, and used a hair dryer to take the decals off. She drove it for several years. I believe she sold it when I was 15. I wish she had put it away for me, but that was a tough year and I knew she needed it. It was a blessing really. I still have the note the mailman left and there are a few pictures floating around. I remember hoping Earnhardt would win. He was my favorite racer at that time. What a cool moment - to be a nine year old. 17. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 01.12.2019 - 1:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Caution 1: Lap 3-8: #71 accident turn 4 Caution 2: Lap 45-48: #4,33 spun Caution 3: Lap 155-161: #15,75 accident Caution 4: Lap 164-166: #43 spun Caution 5: Lap 230-239: #43,47,97 accident turn 3 Caution 6: Lap 340-342: #02 blown tire Caution 7: Lap 348-350: #02 spun Caution 8: Lap 377-384: #27,90 accident Caution 9: Lap 405-408: #7,75 spun Caution 10: Lap 440-442: Caution 11: Lap 444-446: #15 stalled turn 1 18. Wasn't this only Hendrick's 8th race? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
