Yea he blew an engine but he still finished ahead of DW by 5 positions. 4. 18fan posted: 03.03.2009 - 1:09 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) It probably was the biggest blow to Bobby's title chances because nobody could beat him, just looking at the stats. If he led the most laps and won instead of finishing 9th, Bobby would've gotten 185 points instead of 148, but he had a lot of mechanical failures in 1982. He would've gained 59 points instead of 26 points 5. jessiehenryf posted: 11.04.2009 - 7:47 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) piedmont airlnes ford 6. I thought I remembered reading that in Stock Car Racing magazine....if so, apparently the deal must've fell through... 9. Three second cars showed up for qualifying, but all DNQ'd. 10. Gant won 18 times over the course of his Cup career but this was his only win at Charlotte. 11. most posted: 08.13.2019 - 7:58 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Anyone know why Kyle Petty didn't run the 42 car in just this race of 1982? 12. RaceFanX posted: 08.13.2019 - 9:53 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @11 The strain of running two cars full-time was stretching Petty Enterprises resources too thin so the decision was made to work out a deal with Hoss Ellington and his #1 team to have Kyle Petty run some superspeedway races in the second half of the season for him, allowing them to rest the #42 team and focus on Richard Petty's #43. In exchange Ellington's team got a boost as the younger Petty brought over his STP sponsorship leading to the #1 getting a Petty Blue-and-red makeover the races where he drove it with joint STP and UNO card game branding. The deal however would sour quickly, Kyle Petty never finished better than 14th in any of his six races in the #1. Ellington publicly fired Kyle Petty during the week after this race after the younger Petty complained about the car after his he fell out of the race here, saying their Buick here had "no handling and no motor." Ellington said in response he didn't think Petty was running hard enough or getting everything out of his car that it had in it, leading to his decision to find other drivers for the team's last races of the year before bringing in Lake Speed for 1983. Kyle Petty went back to the #42 to finish out the season but would fail to finish all three races. Before Ellington fired him the Pettys had already spelled it out that Kyle would not return to drive for him again in 1983 with Richard Petty saying he was working on several deals as they sought to put him in a top ride, ultimately Kyle Petty would stay at Petty Enterprises after the team landed a new full-season sponsorship from 7-Eleven. 13. dennyfan11 posted: 07.20.2020 - 2:14 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Cautions according to Charlotte News report: https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/622640962/ Caution #1: Laps 10-13, #46 accident frontstretch Caution #2: Laps 180-184, #98 blown engine/spun turn 4 Caution #3: Laps 232-237, #33 spun turn 2 Caution #4: Laps 239-245, #2, #8, #11, #15, #28, #36, #43, #50, #67, #78 accident turn 4 Caution #5: Laps 270-276, #41 blown engine/spun backstretch Caution #6: Laps 326-330, #88 blown engine turn 2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
