Richard Petty was trailing by a tremendous distance with 10 laps left but kept cutting into the gap and was within two car lengths by the final few laps. However, Bobby Allison was faster in the turns and was able to hold him off by a slight margin. They said 3/4ths of a car on the radio but it says two car lengths here. I'm sure this is more accurate. It was a race of attricion. Cale Yarbrough was very strong until he finally had to retire. 2. Unfortunate. 4. most posted: 12.02.2006 - 9:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) That is an amazine stat, I would have never thought that but true, and he even had top 10 points finishes! 5. Buddy attributes the success to the investments he made in his engines. ?We bought new blocks, cranks rods and pistons that year.? With the new components, and his hard work, Buddy showed the world that he had the skills to win races if he had the equipment. Only Cup-winner Darrel Waltrip completed more laps that year, and Buddy finished 7th overall in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series with 8 top-10 finishes, an amazing accomplishment for an independent racer in that era. 13. The #28, #2 and #50 scored more points, but their owners suffered from driver ADD. 14. binkerbo posted: 06.03.2020 - 3:44 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) DNQs mentioned in the broadcast include... Marty Robbins Bobby Wawak Bill Scott (presumably the one from Brevard NC) Dr.Gil Roth Bob Slawinski and someone named John whose last name I couldn't understand Ronnie Thomas and Al Loquasto did not qualify on time but were added to the field through what would come to be known as provisionals. 15. rateus posted: 02.08.2021 - 6:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @14 Last name for the missing non-qualifier sounds to me like 'Coberan', although that spelling is purely guesswork. There's no obvious match on this site and a quick google didn't find one either - only other clue from the broadcast is that he was a Michigan native. The broadcast also confirms that Bill Scott is the one from Brevard, NC. 16. Rich posted: 04.13.2021 - 10:44 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bob Jenkins and Larry Nuber were the commentators.
