Had to have been a heck of a finish, w/ the margin of victory only being
3 feet. Gotta love Darlington!!

Stacy was a somewhat shady fellow who made his money in coal and was one
of NASCAR's more well-known owners in the 80s after he bought Rod
Osterland's 1980 championship team in 1981

Unfortunately the teams that Stacy sponsored in 1982 didn't get much
money from him, if any, which is why most of them had new sponsors in
the second half of the year.

This win was the first for Earnhardt at Darlington (great to see he got
to do it in a Ford huh?). Ironhead went on to win nine races here
including three Southern 500s.

@5 J.D. Stacy sponsored 7 cars that day not 6. Also instead of putting
any of his companies names on the cars, he put his name. The 7 drivers
he sponsored are..

This was the last year the Darlington spring race had the "Rebel 500"
branding. The name, which dated back to the start of the spring race in
1960 and continued at various distances, was phased out the following
year when TranSouth Financial became this race's sponsor.

These are the remarkable comebacks the '80's are known for. Cale
Yarborough was involved in a crash early on in the race after contact
with Neil Bonnett, then was able to come back, get back on the lead lap,
and catch Dale Earnhardt thanks to a caution for Kyle Petty's crash and
came up 3 feet short of taking the win away from Earnhardt.

ABC covered this race but I do not know who was in the booth or pit road.
