And who is JD Stacy and how was he able to sponsor 6 cars. 6. myself posted: 07.26.2009 - 3:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Had to have been a heck of a finish, w/ the margin of victory only being 3 feet. Gotta love Darlington!! 7. Ironhead went on to win nine races here including three Southern 500s. 13. 1995z71 posted: 07.28.2017 - 2:15 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @5 J.D. Stacy sponsored 7 cars that day not 6. Also instead of putting any of his companies names on the cars, he put his name. The 7 drivers he sponsored are.. #2 Tim Richmond #5 Jim Sauter #28 Benny Paesons #44 Terry Labonter #47 Ron Bouchard #71 Dav Marcis #90 Jody Ridley 14. The name, which dated back to the start of the spring race in 1960 and continued at various distances, was phased out the following year when TranSouth Financial became this race's sponsor. 15. Cale Yarborough was involved in a crash early on in the race after contact with Neil Bonnett, then was able to come back, get back on the lead lap, and catch Dale Earnhardt thanks to a caution for Kyle Petty's crash and came up 3 feet short of taking the win away from Earnhardt. 16.
