On lap 3,Bobby Allison's rear bumper broke away from the car(it was welded on purpose by a wire welder) and caused a pileup further behind the leaders. Without a rear bumper,Allison's car gained an aerodynamic advantage and won the race. For this race he also had one of the slickest crew chiefs of all time, Gary Nelson. 3. A few races would be contested before the actual year of that season began. I find it really interesting to look at those older seasons. 6. He drove a 1963 Ford Fairlane sponsored by Waco Ford. I wonder if there are any photos of that car? Benny Parsons used to race at Mount Clemens back in the 1960's before he left in 1968 to race ARCA. 24. The team was scheduled to run about a dozen races in the 1982 season with cars prepared by Harry Hyde. Richmond missed the Daytona 500 and ran one race for the team at Rockingham that season before moving to J.D. Stacy's team for the rest of the 1982 season. Not sure what happened to the team after Richmond left. 27. nascarman posted: 12.15.2014 - 8:47 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Withdrawn: Bill Dennis / Pontiac (Dennis was critically injured in a qualifying crash) 28. myself posted: 04.07.2015 - 12:50 pm Rate this comment: (1) (1) Booby Allison/Gary Nelson would cheat in a skinny minute! 29. saltsburgtrojanfan posted: 02.08.2016 - 4:58 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Caution 1: Lap 5-12: #23,50,52,66,70,94 accident tri-oval Caution 2: Lap 16-18: debris Caution 3: Lap 86-95: #59 accident turn 2 Caution 4: Lap 105-111: #1,21,28,43,47,96 accident turn 1 Caution 5: Lap 120-125: #27,75 accident backstretch 30. As of 2011 the car was still in existence with an owner in North Carolina one the fence about if it should be restored, how much to do, or preserving it in a wrecked status. 34. nascarman posted: 06.05.2017 - 4:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bill Dennis' Pontiac was owned by Eddie Falk. According to Dennis, he died in the accident. He said he saw himself unable to move his arms and legs, then he floated up through clouds toward a bright, white light, then everything went dark. He was brought to the care center with no pulse and Jerry Punch and Dr. A.J. Adessa did CPR for a few minutes, reviving him. nhttp://www.racing-reference.info/showblog?id=3021 35. After running a couple short track races in 1981 and finding some success Martin shockingly turned down an offer from Harry Ranier to take over the #28 as he and Bud Reeder took their #02 team full time with a new all-year sponsorship from Apache Stove. On paper things looked good but as this DNF right out of the gate showed things would not go as well as they hoped. Apache Stove never paid the team and while there would be some bright spots Mark's dreams of 1982 Cup success fast started becoming nightmares. 42. He was a major sleaze, who had just enough money to make it look like he had money. Most, if not all, of the cars carrying his name never received a dime of sponsorship money. He was forced out of the sport in '83 with a ton of lawsuits. 47. zuel660 posted: 03.03.2021 - 10:50 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Hoss Ellington had harsh words for Bobby Wawak after the major wreck on lap 105, as Wawak had been running well off the pace, then blew his engine and sent up a huge plume of smoke right in front of the lead pack as they entered turn 1, triggering the melee. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
