Buddy had a strong qualifing run and backed it up with a third place finish. This run was in a Dodge Magnum. 2. Lance posted: 02.09.2007 - 8:30 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Yeah, Anonymous...You're correct. Cale was looking to survey the damage to the rear of the #11 and someone lost control of their car on the track and pinned Cale between his car and the other racer. The next week Cale went on to race at Nashville and won the race with two busted up legs. Cale Yarborough, Richard Petty and Davey Allison were probably the toughest of all stock car racers. I'm lucky to find this website as my intentions via google was to find out what happened during that Talladega race and who hit Cale. Also I wanted to clarify if his legs were badly injuried or broken. Well, I don't think he could have been able to drive, let alone win a short track race at Nashville with "two" broken legs. But with Cale, you never know. 5. myself posted: 02.14.2007 - 4:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Benny Parsons was the one who hit Cale. 6. Bob L posted: 08.23.2007 - 4:09 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Buddy Arrington should have won this race! He had Petty's crew pit the car later in the race and on the last pit stop they left the gas can in the car and he lost two laps. His finest day for sure but what it could've been... PS Ask Buddy who won: He says he did :) 8. Destiny posted: 09.18.2007 - 10:57 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I don't know Lawrence, Travis decided not to start, however, four more add up with him. By the way Bob, Buddy can't win this set. Bobby Allison and Darrell Waltrip made their good chat earlier. Buddy's first best finish came in 3rd at Nashville in 1965. 9. Ulrich was involved in the wreck as well and was limping around on 4 flat tires when he ran into Marcis' parked car. 10. larry posted: 01.12.2008 - 10:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) would any of you know of a crash @ alabama international in the late 70's 76-77 that killed a photographer from valdosta ga, it was my wifes father and she would really like more info he was harold sutton, thx in advance 11. jr88fan posted: 08.26.2008 - 7:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Tommy Gale's best career finish. 12. The race was a combo race with the Late Model Sportsman Div cars and the newer Grand American cars (Camaro) I'm not sure how or if points were paid as Grand American had track and state championships in 1979 but no national title. The winner was John Anderson in a Camaro, followed by Dave Marcis in a Monte Carlo, Bobby Allison in a Matador, Rusty Wallace in a Firebird and Lennie Pond in a Mercury. Sterling Marlin was 9th, L.D. Ottinger 10th, Harry Gant 21st, and Morgan Shepherd 27th. 26. Joshua posted: 01.03.2019 - 10:20 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) The winner lapped the field, second place was a lap ahead of third, third was a lap ahead of fourth, and fifth was three laps ahead of sixth. I know there was a massive crash, but this seems highly unusual for Talladega for the whole field to be spread this many laps apart. 27. JSPorts posted: 01.03.2019 - 11:09 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) It was. In the early days of the track (before plates), there were still 2+ cars that finished on the lead lap most of the time. The only time that a driver lapped the field (other than this race) was the 1973 Winston 500, when David Pearson beat Donnie Allison by 1 lap. That means that this is the 2nd, and likely final, race won by over a lap at Talladega. 28.
