Lennie Pond spun on the front straight and drove his car backwards to the pits right in front of NASCAR officials and they didn't even throw the caution. 6. jessie posted: 04.22.2010 - 5:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (2) i drive lennie pond car to fish 7. What's the deal? It doesn't list Junior Johnson as owner until over half way in the '74 season. 10. Then the skies opened up and the rest of the race was run 2 weeks later. Caution #2- #44 spins on the frontstretch Caution #3- #7 loses a wheel on the frontstretch Caution #4- Hard crash for #71 & #14. Baker actually caught fire after he hit the wall, and as mentioned before, ended up driving into Marlin's spun car due to no steering Actually, not all the cautions are in the highlights video, but there's 4 out of 7 right there^ Highlights of the race http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7f8WMCfoEY 11. Rob posted: 10.19.2018 - 12:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Why did Benny Parsons run a Mercury in this one race ? 16. Canadianfan posted: 10.19.2018 - 2:35 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) @15 One of two possibilities Rob. First maybe Benny crashed his Chevrolet primary in practice, it was not uncommon for your back up to be a year or two older model or a all together different manufacturer back then. Benny drove a '71 Mercury most of '72 so this was likely the backup. The second is Benny had blown two engines entering this race including one at Rockingham the week previous maybe the team didn't have a third so they used the backup Mercury instead. 17. Scott B posted: 10.19.2018 - 3:22 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) ^^^What he said.^^^ FWIW Benny also ran a Ford in the final race of 1974 at Ontario, after all the previous races that season were in Chevrolets. Even the competitive teams kept a much smaller inventory of backups in that era than they do today. 18. March 25 was originally an open date, so it was an obvious choice to complete the race. 20. rateus posted: 05.30.2020 - 11:54 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) To this point of the season (5 races in) 33 drivers had recorded at least one top-10 finish. This remains the modern-era record, although the current season has come pretty close. 21. rateus posted: 02.20.2021 - 1:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Eddie Bond qualified for Frank Warren and Ronnie Daniels qualified for Jabe Thomas. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
