He ended on a hot-streak, winning the next race and then the last race of the season as well. The one in between was a second-place finish. While he didn't win the points race in this season, Joe Weatherly probably had the best season of anyone on the circuit that year. He just didn't run in enough races to earn the title. The next two seasons he ran a full season and won the season point championships. The second one was pretty amazing. Car owner Bud Moore didn't run a full season, so Weatherly had to bum rides for many events. He won none of the races in the other owner cars, but did well enough to win the championship. 2. simonracer posted: 09.18.2015 - 11:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Fireball had a real bad one in this race. His car got badly t-boned by Morgan's car after he collapsed a wheel and spun. Luckily, the impact was on the passenger's side, as that side of the car was caved in to the point where he would have been almost certainly killed had he been sitting on that side of the car. 3. nascar_vd / racing-reference.info posted: 10.29.2018 - 10:51 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Note: Joe Weatherly made 4 pit stops during the race, one unscheduled. He put on one or more new tires each time. He was the only of the top10 starters in the top10 finishers. 4 caution flags, one for 12 laps, helped the Norfolk veteran to stay in contention. The Pontiac #8 was set up by Bud Moore and Pop Eargle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
