The attrition was very low for the era, and it looks like the cars that did drop out could have exited the track without a yellow. Extremely rare for the average race speed to be faster than the pole speed! 4. nascar_vd / racing-reference.info posted: 09.14.2015 - 10:21 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Note: Point standings after this race: 1) Lee Petty = 3466 points 2) Buck Baker = 3304 3) Dick Rathman = 3156 4) Herb Thomas = 3044 5) Joe Eubanks = 2590 6) Al Keller = 1910 7) Ralph Liguori = 1834 8) Bill Blair = 1578 9) Curtis Turner = 1554 10) Dave Terrell = 1450 11) Laird Bruner = 1366 12) Gober Sosebee = 1226 13) Jim Paschal = 1218 14) Hershel McGriff = 1156 15) Blackie Pitt = 1084 16) Jimmie Lewallen = 990 17) Elton Hildreth = 854 18) Ray Duhigg = 724 19) Donald Thomas = 692 20) Ed Skinner = 618 5. The '49 Hudson was made 5 years earlier than this race was run, so it must be one of the oldest to ever race. 8. If anyone broke that record or at least tied it, it was in that race. Most of the cars in that race were built in 1976 or 1977. 9. For instance the Superspeedway truck "Freak" was built in 1998 won several races at Daytona for Bobby Hamilton racing, starting in 2001 at Daytona, and was still being raced into 2018 before it was wrecked for good at Talladega with Chris Fontaine driving it. Jeremy Clements famous upset win at Road America in 2017 in the NASCAR Xfinity Series came driving a car that was first built nine years earlier in 2008. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
