In this race Mark Martin passed Dale Earnhardt for leader in IROC wins.

The big one struck in the closing laps when contact between Steve Kinser
and Scott Pruett triggered a multi-car crash that involved half the
field. Helio Castroneves had been running second when the lap began but
his shuffling back resulted in him being collected. Danny Lasoski was
also involved but able to continue, he actually contended for the win
after they repaired his car before he had had to ding himself for a
yellow-line violation.

This was the IROC debut for the late Bobby Hamiliton, Martin Truex Jr,
Sebastien Bourdais, Buddy Rice and Max Papis. Truex and Hamilton had a
great run, both contending for the win with Rice also scoring a top-5.

In case anyone is curious here were the highlight colors used by each
IROC car in 2006, all cars were mainly white with the highlight color
the same for every race designed to somewhat match the driver's regular
race cars...

also the first time i believe the drivers used their own numbers from
their respective series instead of going by points.

Mark Martin's victory here marked his return to IROC competition after
having not been invited to be part of the series in 2004. His win here
was his second, and last, in the series at Daytona following up on his
2003 victory and it would turn out to be his penultimate win in the
series...but it kicked off a championship season for him.
