Nobody knew who was gonna win the championship until the final corner. Going into the season finale, Ryan Newman had a slim point lead. Throughout the race, Kevin Harvick dominated and looked like he'd take his 2nd IROC trophy in 3 years, but after the competition caution, he had bad tires. Kenseth used help from Kurt Busch to get past Lasoski, and took the championship. 2. Brian posted: 09.05.2005 - 4:42 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) I was hoping Ryan Newman would win the title. He technically did better than Kenseth but the rules for this series awards wins and leading laps, which he did. 3. RaceFanX posted: 01.27.2018 - 12:51 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Incredibly six drivers came into this race with a shot at the series championship with Ryan Newman holding a four-point lead on Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson with Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick, and Danny Lasoski (!) all within striking distance. Kenseth of course won the race, his second in a row after the Richmond victory, and claimed the title in the process. 4.
