Terry Cook led a late restart, but then Kvapil and Pressley got by and raced for the lead. Crawford took the white flag 4th, but got in the lead battle on the backstrech. The 3 of Kvapil, Crawford and Pressley (2002 winner)went three wide all the way to the finish line. Crawford edged Kvapil by a nose for the 2nd win in his career. Notes: Ed Berrier raced for Kevin Harvick. He finished 13th 2. JJ Lehto posted: 02.20.2005 - 11:36 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 3 wide at the line for the win.... amazing 3. The whole race was exciting, but the thing that capped it off was the fantastic 3-wide finish. The race was easily the best race of Speedweeks 2003. With a snoozefest for a Busch race(dominated by Junior, if I remember correctly), and a rained-out Cup Daytona 500, which was also a snoozefest, it's easy to see why. 4. Bobby Dotter was a pleasent surprise with his 11th place finish. 5. brandon posted: 02.23.2006 - 8:39 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) crawford ended a 120 race winless streak, nearly 5 years without a win, and what a way to do it leading at the white flag getting shuffled back to 5th and making a three-wide pass to win. 6. tonyfan20 posted: 07.24.2006 - 11:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) One of the best finishes ever. The trucks always put on a good show at Daytona! 7. That's NASCAR. :) 9. That stupid splitter thing they added this year doesn't look too promising and Toyota has already basically shut down the manufacturers' operations of the Dodge teams and is now working on killing the Chevys, with the Fords still managing to evade extinction for the time being. 10. Steve posted: 03.01.2007 - 11:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Yeah, it's pretty much the Roush F-150s and Ron Hornaday's KHI Chevy who are the only ones who can really beat the Toyotas. Besides the Nextel Cup invaders. To add to Darrell's comment on Ed Berrier: supposedly the #6 truck (now the #33) was going to attempt all 25 races, with Kevin running 7 or 8 races, and Ed Berrier driving the truck in most of the other races, with a few exceptions (like Brandon Miller at Bakersfield). I guess lack of sponsorship prevented that. 11. Carl was leading and hit the wall hard in his unsponsered #99 truck. He thought for sure that he was fired from Roush Racing for wrecking his truck. So when Carl was in the garage area after the accident, he was trying to avoid Jack Roush. Jack came running up to him in excitment! "That was awesome!" Jack screamed at Carl, "You went from the back to the front in no time and even lead some laps. You ran a great race!" To Carl's surprise Jack shook his hand. Carl said to himself "Boy I can get use to this!" Just thought that was pretty funny! 14. Then, he was never heard of again!! 19. MSportRev posted: 12.17.2018 - 1:06 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Just watched the race on YouTube, G.J. Mennen, Jr. was running at the end per the SPEED Channel footage. His status should be changed to reflect that. 20. Jack must have really liked him though because he broke from his mold of embarrassing/ripping drivers who crash to congratulate Carl on a great race. 21. rm posted: 05.29.2020 - 12:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) From the broadcast: 29 crew chief - Bob Keselowski 31 crew chief - Todd Myers (same through at least Kansas) 59 crew chief - Greg Conner (same all 2003) Peak announcer's curse: as CC/spotter Buddy Barnes was receiving praise for his excellent track record as a spotter, Ted Musgrave loses a tire and crashes while Barnes' driver Jason Leffler piled on in from behind. In fairness to Barnes & Leffler, the #2 truck probably would have missed the accident had Musgrave not collided with Michael Dokken and shot back up the track in front of Leffler and Brian Sockwell. Musgrave's tire came straight off the truck and was promptly run over head-on by a trailing Bill Lester. Somehow, it caused only relatively minor damage to Lester's truck, though the SPEED booth questioned how it would affect the truck's aero after the tire impacted the hypersensitive front valence. Randy Briggs pulled off one of the most unusual stunts in NASCAR history in this race. During the pace laps, Briggs proposed to girlfriend/spotter/car owner Mary Ward over the radio. Ward said yes and promptly got right back to trying to get Briggs ready for the upcoming green flag, not mentioning the proposal again until she came back down to pit road after the race! 22.
