Jimmy Spencer got wrecked by Shawna Robinson, and pulled out some gestures on the track. 3. It was probably Earnhardt's only Busch DNQ, he 'retired' from the series after 1994. For Houston his consecutive start streak ended at 360 races. 5. 1995z71 posted: 12.16.2012 - 8:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Larry Pearson used his championship provisional to make the race over Earnhardt. As far as I know, this is Earnhardt's only DNQ in any NASCAR race. 6. ericthenau posted: 12.25.2012 - 9:36 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) 1995z71, Dale Earnhardt never was a past champion in the NASCAR Busch Grand National Series (now the Nationwide Series), but Larry Pearson was... that's why Pearson was able to start 39th and last in this race. Also, as far as I can tell, Tommy Houston's #6 Houston Racing Ford that he owned himself missed this race because the #1 car of Mike Stefanik was able to take the last of two normal provisionals for the race, mainly due to Houston ending the 1993 Busch Grand National season one position behind Rodney Combs, who drove the #1 car the year before, in the points standings. Most importantly, this went on to put an end to the streak of races that Houston, the last remaining driver to start every and all of the previous Busch Grand National races up to that point, was in, at 360 starts (this was the 361st Nationwide Series race by the way). 7. 1995z71 posted: 02.17.2014 - 4:57 pm Rate this comment: (2) (1) ericthenau.....learn to read 8. That would never happen in modern NASCAR with the field not full and Cup drivers getting the best cars. 14. Jimnsimforever posted: 02.15.2019 - 7:09 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) I know the car Dale was trying to qualify was the same car that had just been wrecked pretty bad in the Busch race at Rockingham the week before, and he qualified poorly in the Rockingham race with it before it was wrecked. It also surprises me that Darrell Waltrip would try to qualify for this race when he just said he was not going to run any Busch races at all in the 94 season and was likely retiring for good from the series at the end of 93. That didn't last long. Maybe he got the bug for it commentating the week before. Rusty rarely ever ran Busch races, so kind of surprised me he tried to qualify for this one too. All of those guys if they entered a Busch race it was their own car with nothing to do with their Cup owner like what was to come so it was way more competitive with the Busch regulars. Mark Martin is the guy who started the trend of running part time in Busch for the big time Cup owner. He started in 93 running Busch races for Jack Roush, absolutely dominating with 7 wins that year. Everything was fine until they all started doing that and running the series full time for titles in the 2000s. Michael Waltrip was the only other one I believe that ran Busch for his Cup owner before Martin. His Cup team wasn't a big time owner, but put good Busch cars under him. 15. Fuzzy posted: 11.30.2019 - 12:37 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This had to have been the only time in history that the drivers who failed to qualify had 9 Winston Cup championships and 177 Cup victories among them. Wallace, Earnhardt, and Jarrett would go on to win another 70 Cup races combined, and another 2 Cup championships (Earnhardt in 1994 and Jarrett in 1999). Also failing to qualify was 24-time Busch Series winner Tommy Houston, while relative unknowns like Roy Payne, Dirk Stephens, and Randy MacDonald got their cars in the show. 18. Fuzzy posted: 12.01.2019 - 12:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @18 I did not forget Waltrip. Did you finish reading the comment, or did you only read the first sentence? At the time, they only had 177 Cup wins combined. While Waltrip would not win again, the others would go on to win 70 more races, adding up to the 247 figure that you mentioned. But no, they did not have 247 race wins combined at the time they failed to qualify for this race. In fact, Dale Jarrett was just getting started and had only won 2 races. I will concede that you are right about the total number of championships. I said 9 and they actually had 10 among them by this time: Wallace (1), Earnhardt (6), and Waltrip (3). 20. Corey posted: 12.01.2019 - 1:36 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @19 I read the entire thing, which is where the confusion comes in. You mentioned Wallace, Jarrett and Earnhardt, but no Waltrip. Since the first three had a total of 9 championships, and 163 wins (I was curious as to where you got the 177 number), you can probably see why I didn't read it as "at the time". 21. MarkMartinFan posted: 12.01.2019 - 2:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) On this date; DW had 84 wins, Earnhardt had 59, Rusty had 32 and DJ had 2. That is 177 wins. DW had 3 Cups, Earnhardt 6, Rusty 1. That is 10. 22. Corey posted: 12.01.2019 - 3:01 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @21 Your point being? 23. So, Mike Stefanik should be a WD, owner Mike Stefanik. 26. When it was mentioned that he failed to qualify, he was referring to the 1993 fall Richmond race. I also cannot find any information on Rusty Wallace attempting this race. The DNQs that I have found are: Tommy Houston David Bonnett Nathan Buttke Dale Jarrett Andy Hillenburg (the one from Indiana) George Crenshaw Dale Earnhardt Patty Moise Chad Chaffin Martin Truex, Sr. Eddie Goodson Richard Lasater Pat Davison Johnny Smith Robbie Reiser Ken Wallace, Jr. Kerry Teague That's 56 entries which matches an earlier comment in this thread. 27. I rather doubt David was even at the track. No idea about Davison, tho. 31. possum posted: 10.09.2020 - 7:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Incidently, if the webmaster wanted to update Bonnett's number was 12, sponsor Plasti-Kote, and owner Neil Bonnett (same as the Rockingham race). 32.
