With the bulldozers sitting outside Riverside licking their chops the stock car sanctioning body was looking to develop new smaller and lighter L-R (Left-Right) cars for the Cup series that could take its top level tour to more road course and even street courses, especially out west, to help the sport expand more into new markets. Bringing the Busch Series to Braselton was deliberately done as a way to test out Road Atlanta as a possible site for a future Winston Cup race using the L-R cars, somewhat explaining the presence of four Winston Cup champions in the field, but alas it never came to pass after development of the L-R cars failed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
