Pole speed: 87.771 mph by Bruce Bechtel (6 car invert)

Bechtel would win another pole at Colorado Nat'l. later in the week,
setting the track record on an unseasonably cool and gloomy day, but
that unseasonably gloomy weather turned into a rainstorm that washed out
the Southwest tour race. Bechtel didn't return to CNS for the second
scheduled race in August, which - you guessed it! - was shortened not
long after halfway due to rain.

Bechtel never led a lap in this race, which would have been his first
time out in front of a SWS race in over a year.
