Pope only led the money lap as he bested ex-NASCAR Truck star Timothy Peters with a last lap pass through Turns 3 and 4 following a thrilling side-by-side white flag battle. Pope didn't have an easy drive to victory as he fell back early on leading he and crew chief Nick Hughes to try and outthink the opposition instead of outrun them. They started saving their tires before making a charge back up through the field in the closing laps, first taking Chad McCumbee for second and then running down Peters to set up the dramatic final lap. Remarkably despite that late charge Pope didn't know he'd won until after the race and initially wondered why his team was flipping out after the checkered flew. The team didn't tell him Peters was the leader or that his last lap battle was for the win. He knew he was in the top-3 but not that he had just won the race until they told him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
