On a cool note thou......they the "garage" for these teams outside the track and for a few hours on Friday had a open house and autograph session for the fans 2. He then celebrated it with special guest Lloyd Dane, the 85-year-old Dane won three of the West series first four titles when it was formed in the mid-1950s (in addition to four wins in what is now the Sprint Cup Series). The semi-retired Michael Waltrip makes his first Winston West/K&N West start since 2001. 4. racer x posted: 11.19.2010 - 3:49 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Johnny Borneman, III CHEATED! This race is an example of how a high car count is not always better. This race was a total disaster with so many unqualified drivers out there that I'm very surprised no drivers got injured. Many of us in attendance at this one thought this was so bad that it might kill off the series entirely. I'm glad it didn't. The series has really come a long way since this race too. Sure the entry lists are smaller, but the quality of racing and skill of the drivers is exponentially better today than it was for this event. 8. There have been some IMSA races in recent years with 60+ entries, but most people seem to think that field sizes closer to 40 in that series make for the best racing. Having too many cars tends to increase accidents and caution periods while decreasing the overall quality of racing. 10.
