It's also one of the smallest starting field of West Series history. 2. Alex posted: 01.09.2017 - 7:10 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) This actually IS the smallest field in West Series history. Harold drove a '58 Ford in this, not a '68. https://chroniclesoftheacres.com/2014/06/29/harold-hardesty/ 3. sting72 posted: 05.12.2020 - 5:02 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Hardesty drove a 67 Ford Galaxie the entire 68 season. A 10 year old car was not eligible to race in 1968. The car was own by Bob Bristol. It is pictured in the link in the above post. 4. possum posted: 05.12.2020 - 7:22 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) Actually, if you read the article (instead of looking at the pictures) it seems quite possible Hardesty did drive a '58 Ford, altho it should not have been legal under the rules. Bristol's #18 was a '68 Ford, but it was really a big track car, not well suited for a 3/8 dirt track. According to the article, Hardesty said he borrowed Ed Tanferani's car, which was a '58 Ford (Tanferani apparently being a weekly racer at the track). However the picture in the article shows Hardesty's own #52, which looks to be mid-60's model. None the less, lacking any clear evidence I think you have to go with Hardesty's own statement, that he won in Tanferani's '58 Ford. Incidently, the article also says Hardesty took the lead on lap 35, so the laps-led should probably be updated. Most likely he had to start at the rear if he borrowed a car. The article notes England won the heat with Britt second, and they probably started the feature 1-2, and likely led at least some of the early laps, altho we'll probably never know for sure. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
