I didn't watch it, but this race, as it appears, had almost no passing throughout the field. Eckes took the lead from Gilliland during pit stops. Smith dropped to 8th, but M Self, Helm, Lessard, and AW Self all finished in the exact same order in which they started. Holmes and Braden swapped spots (with Smith ending up in between them after he fell back). Moffitt passed Gerhart and Pompa, both of which otherwise remained right where they started. Mullins finished right where he started and Richmond gained one spot after Vigh dropped out. The DNFs were almost in the exact same order that they qualified as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see this sort of thing in F1, but I'm not sure I've ever seen a stock car race with so little passing throughout the entire field. 2. Call it a hunch. 5. William24ByronFan posted: 07.26.2019 - 9:00 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Is it a good thing I totally forgot this race was even going to happen? 6. Polesitter Todd Gilliland comes home second in his first outing at the wheel of Coy Gibbs' #18 Toyota, filling in for young Ty Gibbs. 7. That was about the only interesting thing to happen the entire race. Also, the reason the 0 didn't start was due to damage that was done sometime before the start of the race. the front clip had some dents and a crack in it. They were trying to get it fixed, but I guess that didn't work out. They were intending to park anyway. 13. The big tracks are the worst for ARCA. 14. Robby posted: 07.27.2019 - 1:14 am Rate this comment: (4) (0) @13 ARCA has been racing twice a year at Pocono for 30+ years. Now people have a problem with it? 15. TooSmartForThis posted: 07.27.2019 - 1:54 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I know Pocono has been a punching bag for a long time but this wasn't the track's fault. Look at the series. There are barely 15 actual entries, only 4 cars finished on the lead lap in a 150 mile race on a 2.5 mile track. Where was the passing going to come from? There aren't enough competitive cars to put on a race. NASCAR has almost fallen this far, but not quite yet. It is extremely sad what ARCA has become. 16. rm posted: 07.27.2019 - 3:40 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) After a lightning delay, it seemed like everyone just wanted to get it over with. There have been quite a few ARCA races at Pocono in recent memory with only 1 caution during the race. The lack of the thrill is just magnified when the car count is so low. I think it's the third caution-free race at Pocono, besides 2013 I want to say one of the exhibition races in the 80s also went caution free. Those races would have been shorter than this one though. Anyway, less said about this one the better, good thing Springfield and DuQuoin are coming up, those will still be must-see TV. 17. DaveDavidson posted: 07.27.2019 - 8:06 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Only current reason to put on a race like pocono would be for the TV contract. You could race at a track with trucks where FS1 is already present or take a smaller amount from MAVTV and run a short track. 18. Robby posted: 07.27.2019 - 10:37 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @15 With the charter system, there will never be less than 36 cars entered for a cup race. So no, the same won't happen to NASCAR. 19. Danish_Pie posted: 07.27.2019 - 10:47 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I wouldn't be so sure @18. If it wasn't for Spire forming, we likely would have had 35 cars in multiple races by now, cause no currently open team would likely be able or willing to buy it. It's gonna happen eventually to, not this year but either 2020 or 2021, there will for sure be a <36 car field. 20. Noah posted: 07.27.2019 - 12:48 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) This is exactly why NASCAR is merging ARCA with K&N next season. ARCA and K&N East and West both get around 17-20 cars per race. Next season the Arca K&N Merger will surely get races like these with 30+ entries. 21. Ultimate_Warrior_#18 posted: 07.27.2019 - 12:54 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Even with the merger i still see a dozen or more races where car counts might still be in the 20's. We can hope for 30 plus car fields maybe even a few 40's but majority will probably still be in the 20's depending on the rules which hasn't been fully revealed. 22. Scott25 posted: 07.27.2019 - 1:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @20/21 yes I agree fields won't increase much except for the big/crown jewel-type races. I imagine most of the lower budget teams won't be traveling the entire country doing every race 23. rm posted: 07.27.2019 - 1:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Sponsor updates: 1 - Clemson Tigers/Double H Ranch 11 - Fast Track High Performance Driving School 28 - Scott's/KBR Development (GM Parts decals were peeled off the side since Lessard is signed to TRD, they ran the car without any of the Chevy decals) 32 - Win-Tron/Icebox Helmet Coolers Additional to the rear - 69 - pitting before the green flag 69 had a sponsor but I didn't see what it was. Don Thompson crashed in the tunnel turn on his qualifying lap and made significant contact with the wall. His nose was bent up pretty good. The car was actually pushed out to the grid during one of the early lightning delays, but after sitting there for a while it began to leak water again and the crew pushed it back to the garage. Have to say that seeing the JGR 18 with the DGR colors on it was very unusual. Regardless, Todd Gilliland and the team put up another fantastic Pocono race. In 6 races at Pocono, JGR's ARCA outfit has finished 1st, 2nd, 5th, 5th, 2nd, and 2nd here. This was the first time that Riley Herbst was not the driver though, as he was out in Iowa for the Xfinity race. Judging by how his practice times were in Iowa, maybe he should have gone to Pocono instead and gone for his second win there. 24.
