Gibbs got underneath Sam Mayer in turn 4 on the last lap and moved him to get the win. Mayer fell back to third. Christian Eckes was the lone Venturini car without problems and he had a strong run to finish 2nd. Gavin Harlien spun in his debut, while Chandler Smith and Michael Self fought mechanical issues. With the championship leader Self falling out of the race, Bret Holmes could have capitalized and made a run to pass Self in the standings...but he crashed twice and was a non factor many laps down. Travis Braden closed Self's points lead a bit with a solid run, but he was running in the top 5 late before he got loose and dropped back in the order. Joe Graf Jr. was running third for most of the late going, but ran out of fuel to cause the final caution. He was then penalized 5 laps for stopping on the track intentionally to further doom his finish. 7 owner - Eric Caudell (bought Rohrbaugh's owners' points, since they're focusing on trucks now) 1 sponsor - Fast Track High Performance Driving School 7 sponsor - CCM/ETRM Software 23 sponsor - Holmes II Excavation/Sunbelt Rentals 46 sponsor - Street Legal Stocks 3. ARCA debuts for both Drew Dollar and Gavin Harlien, both getting Top 10's ending up 6th and 8th respectively. 7. rm posted: 06.24.2019 - 7:46 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Wayne Peterson keeps up his streak of not completing a lap, dating all the way back to the end of 2016. On the final restart of the race, the top 6 drivers had one combined ARCA win between them. That lone win was from Travis Braden, who hasn't won in several years now. 8. They must be getting something out of the deal for doing it as much as they have in the past 9. He scores a top-10 finish in his first race back. 10. rm posted: 06.24.2019 - 7:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Track name - World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway 69 sponsor - Longhorn Fab Shop Storylines: Venturini's race was once again defined by mechanical problems. Much like at Pocono, axle issues once again popped up. At Pocono, this only resulted in flat tires. At Gateway it doomed point leader Michael Self to a DNF and Chandler Smith to the worst finish of his ARCA career. With Self failing to finish for the second time this season, Bret Holmes would be in position to capitalize as the current 2nd-place man in points. Holmes was involved in two crashes instead and made up a whole 5 points on Self's lead. Ty Gibbs, Corey Heim, Carson Hocevar, Drew Dollar, Gavin Harlien and Chandler Smith were all making their superspeedway debuts. Technically Gateway is listed as a superspeedway, but K&N as well as ARCA use short track eligibility rules at the 1.25 mile oval. Gibbs, of course, won. Talk about coming out strong. Joe Graf Jr. received a 5 lap penalty at the end for intentionally stopping on the track to bring out a yellow. His crew claimed it was because he ran out of fuel, and in total he went 7 laps down as a result of the stunt. With Self and Holmes struggling, Travis Braden and Christian Eckes made up a lot of ground in the championship hunt. With 9 races to go, 4 drivers are within 65 points of the title. Regarding the last lap: I'm not sure Ty Gibbs actually touched Sam Mayer at all making the winning pass. The only damage I saw on Gibbs' car post race was on the left side. It looks like Mayer reacted to what he thought Gibbs was going to do and lost it all of his own accord. Thoughts, anyone? 11.
