The race was stopped five laps short due to time constraints (with the NASCAR Clash scheduled at night) and repairs that had to be carried out on the outside retaining wall on the frontstretch after a four-car crash that saw Justin Fontaine flip onto his roof. It took about an hour to repair the SAFER barrier wall where Fontaine slid on his roof. 3. Theriault plans on running for the series championship so this is a strong start to his title hunt, he now has two wins in three career ARCA starts. 6. Jolly Mean Giant posted: 02.18.2017 - 7:57 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Fontaine took a scary ride in this one, he took a nasty head-on shot into the tri-oval, got onto his side when the #7 of Codie Rohrbaugh got underneath him, and rolled over coming out of the tri-oval. He was transferred to a local hospital after the incident, here's hoping he'll be alright. (Rohrbaugh and Bobby Gerhart, who was also swept up into that crash, are OK.) The biggest wreck in this one happened in the tri-oval on lap 50 when Gus Dean and Mark Thompson collided in the tri-oval when Thompson got a bump from behind that sent him out of control into the #32 of Dean. Gus' car slid back up into the back while Thompson took a huge shot from the #6 of Michael Lira. A couple of cars-Caesar Bacarella and A. J. Fike-caught fire in the crash, but there were no significant injuries in that pileup. Terry Jones drove the race of his life, getting up front through slightly different pit strategy and hanging on to the top spot until just before the Fontane crash ended the race. 9. I didn't see it myself but the wall was damaged from where Fontaine's car got up on top of it. Besides, barely 2 minutes after they called the cars back to the garage it started to rain harder than they would be able to race in. If anything they would have done another caution lap or 2 at most before they called it officially for rain. On top of that this was the second red flag in the race - the Clash wasn't going to start for another 2 hours when they called it even if it didn't rain, that's not why they ended it early. And just 2 years ago in the Truck race at Kentucky when Ben Kennedy got into the catch fence they called the race early in a similar situation for fence repairs. That's just off the top of my head, NASCAR has absolutely done it before. 36. Maverick19 posted: 02.20.2017 - 10:33 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I think they ended it for rain. Every single short track race, the two dirt races, and, for the first time since 2001, the road race will be broadcasted. A bit unfortunate that ASN isn't doing it, because ASN did a lovely job last year, but MAVTV is also good. 43. rm posted: 02.27.2017 - 1:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Maybe MAV will recruit Ray Dunlap to call the races? I liked the ASN crew for the most part last year, Dunlap did a solid job as always and Charlie Krall was great as a pit reporter. No offense to Treito but I wouldn't mind just about anyone else in place of him. I wish Krall could be a pit reporter for truck or Xfinity races, he honestly couldn't do worse than Hermie Sadler (sorry Hermie), but no big network would ever take a chance with him and rightfully so - who wants to be liable for that twitter account? 44. WarriorMan48 posted: 03.01.2017 - 10:49 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) [Thomas] Praytor's DK-LOK Ford was battered and bruised but it wouldn't fire up, getting the Ford a ride back to the garage on a wrecker and the Moose a trip to the infield care center. The team quickly went to work on the machine and had it ready to return to action but didn't have a driver. Praytor's CO2 levels were too high in the infield care center and they had him held up until those levels returned to normal. Ed Pompa was involved in the same wreck but his Clemson car was done and the team recruited Pompa to finish the race. Pompa strapped in and just as the car was ready to return to the race the final caution flag flew and the race was called after a long red flag period ending this year's Daytona race early. That's right, Alabama. It was pretty funny. Also, he was only going to do a lap on the apron under caution to pick up a bunch of spots. That car, while not as badly wrecked as Pompa's own car, wasn't going anywhere fast. 46.
