Maybe it's the dirt being a little big of an equalizer for the underfunded teams but it's nice to see that Strait is still capable of a good run. James Swanson, who has been running full races the last couple weeks since Wayne Peterson Racing apparently got an engine that isn't 6 years old for once. He was running between 12th-17th all day and was in 13th when he had problems with 10 laps to go. Swanson is now up to 11th in points, and with 10th place Spencer Gallagher not running ARCA anymore and instead concentrating on a part-time truck series effort, Swanson should move into the top 10 in points within the next couple of weeks. 7. I know that he's top-fiving everyone to death, but wins should count for something. 8. She lost it off Turn 4 all by herself to bring out the third caution, JWT was nowhere near her. 9. Jeff posted: 09.01.2014 - 10:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #7, the qualifying bonuses are probably keeping Mitchell from losing much ground. He has 5 poles this year to Enfinger's one, and he's always in the top three. Grant also has the bad finish deep in the pack at Pocono, where Mitchell has only finished out of the top ten twice - and his worst run all year is twentieth at IRP. It's got to be frustrating, because as strong as Grant has been all year - and for two different teams, no less! - Mason has been so damn perfect, not even six wins can make a dent in him. 10. The pole sitter gets 15 points, P2 gets 10 points, and P3 gets 5 points. The qualifying points system came under some scrutiny in 2009 I believe, where Justin Lofton was able to win the championship over Parker Kligerman by 5 points, due to Lofton having 5 poles to Kligerman's zero. 11. Jeff posted: 09.02.2014 - 12:03 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) At least that year, though, Lofton won six races to Kligerman's nine, and Parker had the one bad finish when Steve Arpin (in a Venturini car, but who started the year racing for ESR) dumped him at Pocono. As a Matt Kenseth fan, I can't say much about points racing, but it's always easier to be a critic when it's your driver losing out! Does ARCA still award the points bonus for consecutive races to reward full-season contenders? I think it was a 250-point bonus for every 5 races entered. Not that that'll come into play here, but that was another element to the ARCA points system that I always questioned the need for. I'm all for rewarding drivers who chase the championship, but the bonus creates an artificial schism between those who pick and choose their schedule and those who run every race - even if it means starting and parking every so often to pay the bills. 12. I've reached a total number of 62 so far, if you include Schrader's ASA Midwest Tour license and ARCA Truck Series licenses. Malycke and Christopher combine with a whopping 36 if you include their Valenti Modifieds, Southern Modifieds, and NWAAS Modifieds (Riverhead). If you add up the pure costs of these licenses, it would definitely put a dent in the US domestic lotto payout(s) for sure. Maybe they're just hoarding licenses ... Not to mention, Kenny Wallace! 14.
