It was a shame, Sheltra was going for third place when he got spun to start it. 2. Fitzpatrick. 3. smiff posted: 03.18.2009 - 6:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) A lot of preventible destruction in this race, much like in 2005. At least this time nobody tried to tear down the fence. 4. He could have very well won the race if he didn't get caught up in the crash. 5. If not, exactly like the 1984 Consolation Race. 6. He hasn't run in the series again to date... 16. rm posted: 04.30.2017 - 8:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) First caution - laps 14-22 - 47 spun turn 3; 09, 1, 11, 14, 24, 33, 39, 48 accident turn 4 (these happened simultaneously, broadcast made it sound like the spin happened first but even if that was true I don't think the caution was displayed until both wrecks had occurred. Anyway, the 48 got up on its side in the accident. He drove right over the right side of the 1 car and tore the 1's right side sheetmetal completely off. Heckuva job to get that 1 car back out there. Surprisingly, the 48 was the only car involved in this wreck - there were more than what's listed, I can't see exactly who they were on the low-quality broadcast - that did NOT return to the race!) Second caution - laps 31-39 - 01, 4, 14, 16, 19, 20, 30, 44, 45, 47, 52, 75, 94 accident turn 4 Third caution - laps 41-50 - 6, 8, 12, 15, 28, 29, 46, 51, 68, 71, 77, 90, 99 accident turn 4 Fourth caution - laps 52-56 - 39 accident backstretch Fifth caution - laps 62-69 - 5 accident turn 1 (The 23 of Larry Hollenbeck very narrowly missed nailing Bobby's car as it came down the track onto the apron. Must have been some eerie foreshadowing for what was going to happen just a few laps later between Hollenbeck and Patrick Sheltra. Gerhart had to be helped out of his car as it was due to the fact he was still recovering from a broken neck vertebrae he'd suffered at Pocono the year before, I'd hate to imagine what would have happened had Hollenbeck plowed into him.) Sixth caution - laps 75-79 - 23, 44, 60 accident turn 4 (Red flag for this big crash) Lucky dogs: 84, 09, 25, 99, 77, none 6 crew chief - Mark Rhett (same for all 2009 races) 25 crew chief - Billy Venturini (same for all Logano races in the 25 in 2009) 32 crew chief - Mike Chaffee (same for Talladega, Michigan and Kentucky 1 in 2009) 17. rm posted: 10.22.2019 - 2:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 23 owner - Larry Hollenbeck 94 owner - Bobby Hamilton Jr. No way around it, this was an ugly one. Not even some of the little guys like Kennedy, Basham and Benning getting top tens could salvage this mess. 18. rm posted: 08.03.2020 - 10:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 26 sponsor - Support Our Troops/Eagle Hoist & Winch 26 owner - Darrell Basham 26 make - Chevrolet Brad Smith borrowed/rented (probably borrowed, knowing those groups) a plate car from the Bashams to try to make it into the field at Daytona. It didn't help him any as he was the slowest driver to post a qualifying time. Darrell, meanwhile held on to score a 9th place finish in the main event thanks to lagging well behind each major catastrophe that broke out on track. It was the Bashams' best finish in almost four years and their fourth consecutive top 20 at Daytona. DBR never entered Daytona after 2012 and last attempted a plate race in 2013, opting to survive by selling their owners' points instead of risking a destroyed car in the carnage that frequently lurks at ARCA plate races. 19.
