I wonder how they got away with that. Baker's death didn't get as much notoriety as he didn't suffer from a basal skull fracture like other drivers did. It was more stress on his arteries from the crash. His car hit the inside barrier backwards, but it was a tough lick and very fast. Real shame that it happened. On a lighter note, Shawna Robinson becomes the first female to lead an ARCA event. 3. Bakers car hit a huge tire and lifted at least 5-6 feet in the air before slamming down. Bakers car was turned coming out of turn 4 by an over zealous driver who was not even on the lead lap. Happens it was the same driver who ran into the back of the pace car at Daytona...enough said. ARCA had another race the next night at Shady Bowl. The event was cancelled 4. It was nothing deliberate or even reckless imo. I just remember the thud when the roof of the car hit the giant earthmover tire. If I recall correctly Scott was running 1 lap down in around 12th place at the time of the accident. The driver who accidently spun him out was on the lead lap. Regardless a very sombre and sad night for sure. As indicated the race the next night at Shady Bowl was cancelled, but it was due to rain. A USAC Sprint Car race at nearby Eldora was also cancelled that night due to inclement weather. 5. Joe Cooksey was the driver that turned Scott Baker into the tires. Baker was running 8th and Cooksey 9th and they were battling for position. Both had just been lapped by leader Frank Kimmel. 6. Hitting those pretty much made you go to a dead stop in a hurry. 7. TheDewCrew posted: 06.11.2020 - 10:51 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) From what I could see from the video. Frank Kimmel was lapping the field on new tires, and was quickly closing on the two. Baker had passed Cooksey for 8th, just a few laps prior to being lapped by Kimmel. Baker's car looked very loose mid-turn. As Frank was lapping Shawna Robinson in front of them Baker had to move down the track a bit, and unfortunately Cooksey was there and Baker spun passenger-side into the tire barrier, knocking out one of the tires, and immediately stopping the car. The whiplash and it's effects were too much for the 43 year old Scott Baker. Just an unfortunate accident ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
