Tigerman posted: 11.03.2020 - 3:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Either Tripp or Turbin drove the #71 as they both have driven that car number in 1992. Maybe Tripp drove the #33 car as he would do in 1993. Piercy car number was 88 and owned by Jim Hurlbert. Dean Roper drove the #39 Pedigree Chevrolet. Owned by Roulo Brothers. Ken Valentine number is unknown. 11. Archie posted: 11.03.2020 - 3:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I realize that a car's number isn't exactly a matter of life or death, but are you saying that all of these declarative posts are really just guesses based on what number a driver used in some other race that year, and not based on actual evidence from a specific race report or some other source? That's probably not the best way for this site to go about accepting information for updates. Maybe those numbers were left blank for a reason? 12. Tigerman posted: 11.03.2020 - 3:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @11 I doubt they were unnumbered. 13. Archie posted: 11.03.2020 - 4:02 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Cute. Also doesn't answer the question (actually, I suppose it does). I think the idea of items being blank in the actual source material just might have been a preference to show no data rather than possibly incorrect data. 14. Danish_Pie posted: 11.03.2020 - 4:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) That's not what he meant. Using other races a driver competed in that year to determine a car's number is not conclusive. When information is exempt from a results page, it's because we don't know it. You can make assumptions, but to just say 'yup, this driver drive this car' would be quite presumptuous. 15. RaceFanX posted: 11.03.2020 - 4:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Missing data is usually just a way to avoid putting it wrong since we don't know. In lower tier series in this era it wasn't uncommon for drivers to change numbers or run for a different team now and then if their usual outfit skipped a race for lack of sponsorship or travel costs. Even national NASCAR regulars occasionally had to change their numbers for various reasons. In the 1996 Busch Series season alone Tommy Houston was usually #6 but ran #0 in one race after he DNQed and took his teammate's car and Jeff Fuller had to swap his usual #47 for a race to #17 after a Busch North racer outqualifed him. In 1995 the Truck Series saw Bob Brevak alternate between #34 and #4, running the latter numeral whenever Ray Daniels entered his #34 truck. No one is saying this data is lost forever, sometimes pictures or video turn up and there are surely full race results out there somewhere perhaps online and perhaps not, but as they said in "Under Siege 2: Dark Territory," "assumption is the mother of all f**k ups." 16. Missing numbers: Tripp - 1 Roper - 39 Turpin - 71 Valentine - 84 Piercy - 88 Lance Stott is also listed in the #7 instead of the #07 usually associated with the Stott team; don't have the Salem rundown (the other race he ran that year) to verify if the 0 was dropped as part of a common entry error or if he really did run the #7 instead.
