There is no way, even back then that you would go from a superspeedway to a dirt track with the same car, was there? How did the teams pull that off and still be awake at the end of the dirt race? Those racetracks are 400 miles apart, and most of these teams didn't have transporters for extra cars and their tools. I'm baffled. 7. I imagine it varied depending on where the race shops were located and what kind of budget the team had, but you're right... there must be some stories of burning the midnight oil from that weekend. 8. Bailey at Michigan and a Ford from his family team here. He also drove Bailey's Pontiacs at the other superspeedway races. So he'd have access to that hauler plus his own for transportation. 9. A lot of the part-time drivers just ran one race or the other. 11. Scott B posted: 10.11.2018 - 12:41 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Mark Gibson: Pontiac at Michigan, Olds here. 12. Scott B posted: 10.11.2018 - 12:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Oops, correction. Huffman and Bailey were separate entries and different drivers, just using the same car number. So a lot of guys did chose one or the other, depending on their preference for superspeedways or short tracks. 13. 27 Years Behind posted: 10.15.2018 - 12:43 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Thanks for all of that, Scott. I never looked at the car makes. My brain is so stuck on the way things are done today that I have a hard time thinking in 1991. Can you imagine a top-10 guy today switching manufactures just because it was more convenient? 14. Brewer won the pole and led 91 laps. 16. Tigerman posted: 11.03.2020 - 3:41 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Scott Bloomquist drove the #18. Dick Tracey drove the #1. Jim Hurlburt drove the #88. 17. Margin of victory: 5 carlengths Keselowski's status is listed as flat tire, rather than out of gas. Wonder why there was a discrepancy, anyone have any insight? Bloomquist started 4th Schwengel started 29th (and "finished" there as well) Tracey started 30th (and "finished" there as well) Hurlbert was in the #88 Bloomquist was in the #18 Tracey was in the #1 The best finish of Scott Bloomquist's three-race ARCA career, which was promising but never ended well as he had three DNFs in those three races. The dirt racing legend had another go at stock cars a few years later in the All-Pro series and did far better, even having him consider a career change briefly. Ultimately he stuck to his roots, forgoing NASCAR outside of a lackluster showing at the inaugural Truck race at Eldora. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
