His car barrel-rolled end over end and was struck by Kirk Bryant's car just as it was coming to a stop. 3. The next day set spots 21-40. I dont know why that article would list top 25 since only top 20 were set, but those were the speeds after the first day. Red Farmer spun out off turn two in his qualifying run, hit nothing, and had to qualify on the second day. Also of note, the car Clifford Allison was driving was the same car Bobby won the Busch race with the year before. 23. 27 Years Behind posted: 10.04.2016 - 7:02 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) Thanks! The issue had a large feature on the accident and how he survived it. 27. Talk about the excitement of attending and watching this qualifying round, which I would do if this was the case today. Too bad the glory days of big league auto racing like this are gone 29. RaceFanX posted: 06.14.2020 - 6:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Clifford Allison's first Daytona race on the oval (he did the 24 Hours the year before) ended with a hard blast into the inside wall off Turn 4 that demolished his #12 Piper Aircraft Buick. Allison ended up staying overnight at a local hospital for observation but would be alright. This was just his second ARCA start. 30. Ironically, that was my home track growing up until it shut down, then my home track became Wall Stadium. 31. rm posted: 10.21.2020 - 9:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Tom Usry's monstrous flip here all but ended his "big-time" stock car racing career, but he did appear sparingly on a national level with some Goody's Dash races in the mid-90s. By that point in his career, he essentially raced one-handed due to injuries suffered in this accident that permanently limited the mobility of one of his arms. Usry was involved in another big crash in a Goody's Dash race at Myrtle Beach in 1995 - thankfully nowhere even close to the level of his flip in this one - that saw him spin in front of the field and get tagged hard by oncoming traffic, even sending one car from the snarling pack airborne for a brief moment. Usry had started second alongside David Hutto, 40 years Usry's junior, but the night was not meant to be. After one more Dash start, Usry seemed to get the message and stepped away from the national touring scene. 32.
